Sid’s Dream escapes

Humans make holidays complicated. Sid makes them simpler.

You don’t need everything to be perfect. Get three things brilliantly right:

One amazing stay. One amazing meal. One unforgettable experience.

CHOOSE YOUR DREAM ESCAPE

Three things you’ll always remember

🇹🇷 Istanbul — Bosphorus magic, memorable food and an amazing stay

🇨🇿 Prague— storybook streets, historic views and old-world atmosphere

🇮🇹 Rome — ancient wonders, unforgettable food and Italian style

🇫🇷 Paris — the Eiffel Tower, dinner on the Seine and a room with a view

“Three things you’ll always remember.”

SID’S DREAM ESCAPE : ISTANBUL

Sid’s Three
One amazing stay. One amazing meal. One unforgettable experience.

Few cities have a relationship with cats quite like Istanbul. For centuries, cats have wandered its streets, rested in its shops and made themselves at home among its people.

Sid’s verdict: “A city where cats can wander into shops, cafés and homes without an invitation? Finally, humans who understand the rules.”

Meet Tombili 🐾 — Istanbul loved this laid-back street cat so much that he was immortalised in bronze.

🏨 THE STAY

Çırağan Palace Kempinski

A former Ottoman palace on the banks of the Bosphorus. If you’re going to make one hotel part of the memory, Sid says make it extraordinary.

🍽️ THE MEAL

Modern Turkish cooking turned into something extraordinary. Sid’s rule: if you’re choosing just one special dinner, make it one you’ll still be talking about when you get home.

✨ THE EXPERIENCE

Beneath the streets of Istanbul lies an extraordinary ancient underground world of columns, reflections and shadows. Sid’s choice because a Dream Escape needs one moment that feels completely unlike everyday life.

SID’S DREAM ESCAPE : PRAGUE

Sid’s Three

One amazing stay. One amazing meal. One unforgettable experience.

:

🏨 THE STAY

Augustine, a Luxury Collection Hotel

Part of a former 13th-century monastery beneath Prague Castle. Sid likes a hotel with a story — and this one has had more than 700 years to collect them.

🍽️ THE MEAL

Field

Modern Czech cooking with a serious sense of place. Sid’s choice for the meal that turns an ordinary city break into something you’ll remember.

✨ THE EXPERIENCE

Charles Bridge at Sunrise

See Prague’s most famous bridge before the crowds arrive, with the old city waking up around you. Sid’s choice because sometimes the unforgettable part isn’t what you see — it’s when you see it.

Walk across the magnificent Charles Bridge.

Obviously.

No Sid city guide would be complete without investigating the local feline population.

Prague has cat cafés where you can have a drink while spending time with resident cats.

And treats.

Obviously.

📖 A Prague guidebook — A compact guidebook can be useful for finding neighbourhoods, viewpoints and historical details that don’t always appear in a two-day itinerary. Find a Prague guidebook here.

✈️ Flights and travel — Compare several dates before booking. Moving a short break by even one day can sometimes reduce the fare or open up better flight times. Compare flights and travel options here.

⭐ SID’S VERDICT

Prague has almost everything I require from a city: ancient streets, a magnificent castle, great food and enough atmosphere to keep even a well-travelled cat interested.

But remember Sid’s rule: don’t try to see everything. Pick three unforgettable experiences and leave wanting to come back.

SID’S DREAM ESCAPE: ROME

Rome can overwhelm you with things to see. Sid’s solution? Don’t try to do everything. Choose three extraordinary experiences and make them count.

Ruins, Romans & Rather a Lot of Cats

Buongiorno, humans. Sid here.

Rome wasn’t built in a day. Fortunately, I’ve allowed us two.

Forget trying to conquer Rome in 48 hours. Sid has chosen just three things to make this trip unforgettable.

DREAM MOMENT 1: THE COLOSSEUM.

Start with the big one.

The Colosseum is nearly 2,000 years old and once held enormous Roman spectacles.

Gladiators fought here.

Emperors watched.

Crowds roared.

And presumably somewhere nearby, a cat ignored the whole thing.

Sid’s tip: Book ahead rather than spending valuable gelato time standing in queues.

🏺 Walk through Ancient Rome

From the Colosseum, explore the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill.

This was once the heart of ancient Roman life, filled with temples, government buildings and important Romans looking extremely important.

Take your time. Rome makes much more sense when you occasionally stop and imagine what these streets looked like 2,000 years ago.

⭐ DREAM MOMENT 2 — A PROPER ROMAN MEAL

Time for your first proper Roman meal.

Look out for classics such as:

Cacio e pepe — pasta, pecorino and black pepper.

Carbonara — traditionally made with egg, pecorino and guanciale.

Simple food done very well.

Sid’s rule of travel: Never eat lunch somewhere displaying photographs of 87 different dishes outside.

⛲ Afternoon: Trevi Fountain

Walk towards the Trevi Fountain, one of Rome’s most famous landmarks.

Tradition says throwing a coin into the fountain helps ensure your return to Rome.

Sid considers this an excellent business model.

2026 travel note: Visitors who aren’t Rome residents now pay €2 to enter the inner area immediately around the fountain during visiting hours. You can still see the fountain from outside that controlled inner area.

🍦 Essential Sid Stop: Gelato

There is no historical justification required for this.

You are in Rome.

Have a gelato.

🌆 Evening: Trastevere

Cross the Tiber and spend the evening wandering around Trastevere.

Its narrow streets, little squares and restaurants make it a lovely place to slow down after a busy first day.

Find somewhere pleasant for dinner, order something Roman and watch the world go by.

⭐ DREAM MOMENT 3 — SLEEP SOMEWHERE SPECIAL

🏨 SID’S PICK: HOTEL : Hotel Artemide

If you’re going to make one part of Rome special, make it where you wake up. Hotel Artemide sits on Via Nazionale in the heart of Rome, within walking distance of many of the city’s great sights.

Sid’s verdict: Not the cheap option. But this is a Dream Escape — and sometimes the hotel is part of the adventure.

Then return to your hotel.

You have walked approximately nine million steps.

Even a wise cat needs sleep.

🐾 SID’S EXTRA PAWS

Got more time? Rome has plenty more worth wandering into — but these are bonuses, not a checklist. A Dream Escape is about remembering the best moments, not collecting the most sights.

☕ Morning: Coffee like a Roman

Start with an Italian coffee.

Ordering a cappuccino after breakfast may identify you immediately as a tourist.

Sid doesn’t mind.

Sid orders what Sid wants.

🏛️ The Pantheon

Next stop: the magnificent Pantheon.

Originally built in ancient Rome and later converted into a church, its enormous concrete dome remains one of the city’s great sights.

Look upwards when you enter.

The circular opening in the centre of the dome is the oculus, which provides the building’s natural light.

As of 2026, standard admission is €7, following a price change that took effect on 1 July.

🌸 Piazza Navona

From the Pantheon, wander over to Piazza Navona.

Have a coffee.

Watch the street performers.

Admire the fountains.

Pretend you’re not checking how many steps you’ve done.

Then comes the stop Sid has really been waiting for…

🐈 LARGO DI TORRE ARGENTINA

Ancient ruins.

Julius Caesar.

And cats.

Finally, Rome has its priorities right.

The archaeological site at Largo di Torre Argentina contains the remains of four Roman Republican temples. The area is also associated with the place where Julius Caesar was assassinated in 44 BC.

But today it has another rather special group of residents.

🐱 The Cats of Rome

Cats have made their homes among these ancient ruins for generations.

The Torre Argentina Cat Sanctuary cares for Rome’s famous feline residents, including cats needing veterinary treatment and new homes. The sanctuary currently welcomes visitors Tuesday–Sunday from noon until 4:30pm.

In other words:

Humans built temples.

Humans built an empire.

Cats moved in.

Cats won.

Sid would like it officially recorded that this is his favourite attraction in Rome.

🍕 Afternoon: One Last Roman Lunch

After meeting Sid’s Roman cousins, find somewhere for pizza, pasta or a simple plate of local food.

Then take the afternoon slowly.

Rome isn’t a city that rewards rushing.

Wander.

Get slightly lost.

Find another piazza.

Have another coffee.

Possibly another gelato.

Definitely another gelato.

🌅 Final Evening

For your last evening, find a viewpoint or quiet square and watch Rome change as the sun goes down.

Two days isn’t enough to see everything.

But that’s rather the point.

Remember that coin you threw into the Trevi Fountain?

Perhaps you’ll be back.

🧳 SID’S 48-HOUR ROME CHECKLIST

Comfortable shoes — essential

Reusable water bottle — yes

Pre-book major attractions — very sensible

Camera — yes

Room for pasta — considerable

🐾 SID’S VERDICT

Rome is magnificent, chaotic and completely impossible to finish.

So don’t try.

Choose three things you’ll remember: one extraordinary sight, one wonderful meal and somewhere special to stay.

Wander in between. Drink coffee. Eat gelato. Say hello to the cats.

That’s a Dream Escape.

🐾 Sid’s Dream Escape rating: 10/10

SID’S DREAM ESCAPE: PARIS

Paris gives you hundreds of things you could do. Sid thinks that’s the problem. Forget the frantic checklist. Choose three extraordinary moments and leave time for the city to surprise you.

⭐ DREAM MOMENT 1 — SEE PARIS FROM ABOVE

Start with the icon — but make it a moment rather than a box to tick.

Go up the Eiffel Tower late in the day, when Paris begins to change from daylight to evening. Stay long enough to see the city lights come on below you.

Sid’s rule: The best travel memories aren’t always about seeing more. Sometimes they’re about staying longer.

🍽️ DREAM MOMENT 2 — DINNER TO REMEMBER

Paris is not the place for a rushed meal. Pick one evening and make dinner part of the adventure.

Make dinner part of the Paris adventure aboard Ducasse sur Seine.

Dine on the Seine as Paris glides past your table — exceptional food, the lights of the city and some of its greatest landmarks all in one unforgettable evening.

Sid’s rule: If you’re going to have one special meal in Paris, make the setting as memorable as the food.

🏨 DREAM MOMENT 3 — WAKE UP IN PARIS

For a Dream Escape, the hotel shouldn’t just be somewhere to sleep. Make it part of the memory.

Paris is a city where trying to do everything is the quickest way to enjoy nothing.

At Shangri-La Paris, choose an Eiffel Tower view room and wake up to one of the most recognisable views in the world.

This is the kind of hotel where the view isn’t just where you sleep — it’s part of the Dream Escape.

Check Paris hotel availability

That’s the difference between a packed itinerary and a Dream Escape.
